FAQs
1. Who can get benefits from Pilates?
Anyone who would like to improve their mobility, flexibility, balance and stability and also self-manage pain. As I have been a bodyworker (massage therapist) for a long time, I have helped people particularly with the following conditions:
- hip pain
- back pain
- ageing related stiffness and soreness
- chronic musculoskeletal conditions
- pregnancy/postnatal related
- pelvic floor issue which kegel exercise did not work
- sore neck and shoulders
2. What do I need to bring to Pilates sessions?
Please wear comfortable clothing in which you can move freely and also a pair of clean socks. Non-slip socks can be helpful, but not necessary. You are welcome to get changed in my studio. You may wish to bring a water bottle and/or a face towel.
3. What do I expect with my initial assessment?
Mainly assessment based movements to get to know about your body movement patterns. I will also discuss with you what you would like to achieve through Pilates. For example, I will introduce some Pilates based exercise that you can do at home and less Pilates equipment exercise if you are a person who can commit yourself to a home exercise program.
4. How often should I come and do Pilates after an initial assessment?
It really depends on the individual's goal such as your body condition, your preference of frequency and your schedule. Ideally, I would like my clients to continue a short and simple self-care home exercise program most days and review it in 2-6 weeks. Here are some suggestions.
- 'I want to do equipment Pilates every week/fortnight.' 'I want to do a weekly online session from home.'
Sure.
- Beginners and those who would like efficient progress
I would recommend five sessions weekly or fortnightly in order to learn how to connect your brain and body for optimal function of your body movement. It can be in fact very challenging to do so and it takes some people a long time to change their incorrect habitual movement patterns and activate inhibited muscles particularly if their condition is chronic or severe.
- 'I do not mind exercising at home.'
I will provide you with a tailored home exercise program and modify it every time I see you at your next appointment.
5. How do I and my family member/friend start Pilates duet sessions?
Please book in for Duet.
Please note that the online booking system does not allow you to book multiple people at the time of making an appointment online. Please leave another participant's name and email address in a comment box which will be shown towards the end of online booking steps. Alternatively, email me at info.zenshinwellness@gmail.com or send me a text on 0421 079 143. I will book both of you in for you.
6. Is Pilates for women?
No. Any gender is welcome to start Pilates. The founder of Pilates, Joseph Pilates was German who lived in England in 1912 working as a circus performer, boxer and self defense instructor. During the First World War, he developed his technique of physical fitness. During the latter part of the War, he served in a hospital on the Isle of Man where he worked with injured patients.
7. Can I do Pilates if I am pregnant? How about post-natal?
Yes. However, it is safe to start it with your GP's/specialist's medical clearance if you are new to Pilates and/or have any medical conditions. I recommend waiting a minimum of 6 weeks until you have a 6-week-postnatal check-up and have a medical clearance.
8. What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
Please notify me by phone, SMS or email at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
You can also cancel your appointment online through your booking confirmation email if you have booked online.
9. What if I am late to an appointment?
Please allow enough time to arrive at the studio on time. I am unfortunately unable to extend your appointment time if you are late, as it affects clients with following bookings. Thank you for your understanding.
10. How do I pay if I do online Pilates?
If you book an appointment online, you can pay online towards the end of the online booking steps.
